Elder Sibling or Older Sibling?

What triggered is not clear, but elder daughter went on a rant yesterday night.

Blaming parents of bias towards her and favoring little one ( of course She is little and elder sister also is biased towards her). Mom and Dad could only ROFL with the amazing amount of accusations hurled towards them. Because most of them were frivolous like count of clothes bought for her vs her sister.

The cake though was the unbeatable argument of ” you will not understand the pain of the first born as all of you are second borns”. Incidently Mom and Dad are both 2nd child and She has a point.

This triggered more laughing which she also participated , part due to her appreciation of her own wit and part due to the argument itself.

Then Papa said ” by the way is it elder Sibling or Older Sibling ” and everything went silent. Everyone was now on Google, goggling the right Grammer ” Elder or Older?”, chapter closed 😊

…Elder’ and ‘eldest’ are only used to refer to persons, whereas ‘older’ and ‘oldest’ are used to refer to both persons and things….

None understood, so we had dinner and slept πŸ˜€

  1. I think it means that elder and eldest is used to describe only people whereas older / oldest, can refer to people and things. As in, ‘ the oldest locality in the city’.

  2. May I empathise with your first child?
I was often called the first born, which is not true, as I was in fact the third baby born to my parents, but the first two didn’t survive… so l know all the pain of the first born… even if I was the 3rd, in fact…
    What can you do…?!
